Radiant by the history of its owners and successive guests, the Mansion is one of the jewels of his country, the Amognes, of a very beautiful romantic beauty. Open valley, landscape of grove and forest, the property is part of this harmonious whole that dominates by its carefully chosen location in 1846. It is necessary to discover the 360 degree view from the solarium on the roof to understand it fully.

Built between 1846 and 1851 by Count Denis Benoist Azy, it enjoys a privileged location in the heart of a farm overlooking the village of Saint-Benin in the east and Ixeure in the west.

Designed by Delarue, Angevin architect, on a model Renaissance first, it is one of the few representatives of this style in the Nièvre, and has great similarities, by its shape and its plan, with the Ducal Palace of Nevers, while integrating the principles of life of the nineteenth century. An opulent home, it embodies the social success of its owner, politician and industrialist of prime importance in the department.

Deputy of the Nièvre and Gard, Vice-President of the National Assembly in 1851, Denis Benoist of Azy contributed to numerous economic and industrial developments in the fields of mining, forging, railways and agriculture. His son Paul succeeds him in these activities, adding industry to culture and political thought.

The Château d'Azy is then, in the second half of the 19th century, an active cultural center, where social thinkers and influential artists of the time meet: Montalembert, Winterhalter, Chopin... There are written the first social laws for the protection of the workers, proposed in the Chamber, which helped to inspire much later the establishment of Social Security.

The archives of the Castle interesting the political, economic and social history of this period were paid to the National Archives in 1979.

In 1918, by marriage, the castle became the property of an influential family of very ancient nobility, whose influence is on a European scale. This family, whose links with Burgundy date back to the 14th century, is also linked to the family of Clèves and the Duchy of Nevers.

The links between the owners of the Château and the surrounding country have remained strong ever since. During the Second World War, the Mansion is a hotbed of resistance, a Safe House for English paratroopers, and a reception of refugees and Jewish children rescued from the camps.

During the second half of the 20th century, the place is still famous for its activities, promotion and improvement of the Charolais race, rock festival, golf of international renown designed by Antoine d'Ormesson...

Since 2004, the Mansion has become the property of heritage enthusiasts. Very attached to its history and its importance, they undertook its deep renovation, respectful and attentive. They wished to maintain the spirit of the place: a large family home, welcoming and open to the world, inscribed in the future. They entrusted the principles and keys to the agency Duplessis, child of the country, which since receives at the Mansion of individuals, businesses, artists, as at home...
